Course Description
This foundational course is designed for new Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
practitioners, infection control link nurses, public health professionals, and healthcare
workers transitioning into IPC roles. The course provides essential knowledge and practical
skills required to establish, implement, monitor, and improve infection prevention and
control programs in healthcare settings according to WHO, MOH, CBAHI, and JCI
standards.
Learning Objectives
1. Explain the principles and objectives of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).
2. Describe the epidemiology of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs).
3. Explain the chain of infection and methods for interrupting transmission.
4. Apply standard and transmission-based precautions appropriately.
5. Conduct hand hygiene monitoring and improvement activities.
6. Select and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) correctly.
7. Understand environmental cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization processes.
8. Implement healthcare waste management and sharps safety programs.
9. Participate in surveillance of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs).
10. Calculate and interpret basic IPC indicators and rates.
11. Assist in outbreak investigation and response activities.
12. Conduct basic infection control risk assessments.
13. Participate in infection prevention audits and quality improvement initiatives.
14. Support antimicrobial stewardship activities.
15. Contribute effectively to an IPC program within healthcare facilities.
